An unmissable natural site within the Jura, the Hérisson waterfalls live up to their reputation. A trail adapted with walkways, stairs and belvederes allows hikers to admire the river's amazing lines from one waterfall to another.
Both on the journey there and back, the Hérisson river, punctuated by sparkling waterfalls in a rich mineral and vegetal environment, is a wonderous sight. A touch of fun is added through informational signposts and the House of Waterfalls will satsify the most curious minds.

From the upper parking lot, carefully cross the D39 towards the point of departure for this hike, starting with a gravel road. From here, the itinerary is well signposted. You only need to follow the signs for the Hérisson Waterfalls trail - To the bottom - House of Waterfalls on your way there and To the top - Upper parking lot to return. Along your route, four interpretive signs provide historical information on this remarkable natural site:
  • The Girard Leap nail factory
  • The Jeunet Mill
  • The Blacksmith's Leap
  • The Garnier Castle
  • Departure : Upper parking lot, Ilay
  • Arrival : Upper parking lot, Ilay
  • Towns crossed : La Chaux-Du-Dombief, Le Frasnois, Bonlieu, and Menetrux-En-Joux

Altimetric profile

During rainy weather, take care on the trails. Although equipped with handrails and walkways, some areas can be slippery.
The section between the "Great Leap" waterfall and the "Fan", the last waterfall of the hike, is very steep and includes steps. However, this last waterfall, considered the most remarkable, can be accessed from the lower parking lot where the House of Waterfalls can also be found.
In winter, the site is usually closed for safety reasons.
Do not hesitate to contact the Tourist Office for information on the House of Waterfalls opening times and prices, or for any other information.
