An iconic mountain, the High Jura mountain range is for the most part classed as a National Natural Reserve (RNN) since 1993.

With close to 11,000 hectares, it is one of the largest in metropolitan France (4th largest in surface area). It is the most eastern chain, and the narrowest, but is also the highest of the entire mountain range. Ranging from 580 to 1720 metres in altitude, the contrast in altitude provides this area with a very diverse range of flowers and wildlife. The landscapes and environments comprising it are varied and the species living here are just as remarkable as they are fragile.

Inaugurated in June 2011, the permanent exhibition of the Natural reserve is open to the public.
